Volumetric lighting and energy tunnel effects · Animated light source choreography · Environment atmosphere and mood
Intent
Hyperspace needed to feel fast and technological without being cold. The concept was about connectivity and speed — data moving at light speed — so the lighting had to convey motion and energy. But it also needed to feel aspirational, like a future you'd want to live in rather than a sterile tech demo.
Challenge
Creating a sense of extreme velocity through lighting alone. When everything's moving fast, traditional lighting cues break down — shadows blur, highlights streak. We needed to sell speed while keeping the image readable and the brand message clear.
Approach
I used animated light sources that moved through the frame, creating the sensation that you're passing through tunnels of energy. Volumetric effects carried a lot of the work — light became a physical presence rather than just illumination. The color palette stayed warm despite the tech subject matter.
Reference
The light-trail sequences in Tron: Legacy, but warmer and more organic. Also some of the data visualization work by Universal Everything — they do this thing where abstract motion feels alive.
